Welcome to Year 6
Dear parents/guardians,
Welcome to Blacon High School. We are delighted that your child will be joining us in September and look forward to getting to know you and your family. I understand what a change it is to move from Primary to Secondary and how it may be an anxious time, particularly at the moment with the recent pandemic. Please be assured, we have a team of dedicated staff to support your child every step of the way, over the coming years. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you into school. We know that the last term has been a strange time for everyone due to COVID-19 but we anticipate, based on the latest guidance, to be able to welcome you into school in September.
Due to the current restrictions, we are unable to hold our usual induction days for students and evening for parents. Instead, I would ask you to visit our Virtual Transition Area on Google Classroom. Here you can find information for parents and students, including our welcome videos and transition activities. Your Google Classroom Log-in will be sent to you separately.
Here you will also find our virtual tour which gives an opportunity to move around the school to see our high quality learning environment, superb facilities and to start meeting the staff. The link to our tour can be accessed via the here; https://my.matterport.com/show/?m=H45YyzHM6ko I would ask you to contact Mrs April Stephens, Year 7 Progress Leader if you have any questions.
You will be aware that we are oversubscribed for the third year and due to an increase in popularity and demand for places from within the local community, we are due to have an extension. This will be a two storey building with six classrooms on the top floor and then a bistro, technology/art room and special educational needs area on the ground floor, to enhance our existing Sanctuary provision. Building is due to commence in the next few weeks but in the meantime, we have six high quality mobile classrooms with additional ICT resources to enable us to provide for all of our students in September. Please do look out for my regular updates on our school website and also on Twitter and Facebook. A further letter will be sent from Mrs Stephens with additional information about booking appointments with tutors and uniform.
We look forward to welcoming your child in September and for them to become part of our community at Blacon High School, where we strive to be the best we can be and to achieve excellence and success through strong partnerships. Our partnership with you as parents and carers is one which we value greatly. Please be assured, we are here to support you in all aspects of learning and development and look forward to getting to know you over the coming months and helping your child to fulfil their ambitions and achieve their dreams.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Rachel Hudson
