As part of a Careers Day, Year 10 and 11 students met with a range of employers, colleges and universities. Students had 10 minutes with each employer and educational establishment to discuss the job roles/courses available in each sector; the qualifications and the personal skills required; the day to day aspects of the job roles/courses; and the career prospects and future training available. The visiting professionals and course providers highlighted the importance of a range of skills when applying for employment: teamwork; personal presentation; negotiation and decision-making; time management and organisation; problem-solving and creativity; numeracy; IT skills; communication and literacy; integrity and honesty; and enthusiasm and initiative.
In other sessions during the day, students completed Curriculum Vitae and a draft letter of application. The day was a positive, informative and enjoyable experience for all those who participated.
