Update on Year 11 and Summer Examinations
Dear Year 11 students, parents and carers,
I would like to start by congratulating all those students who have been completing work on Google Classroom and for the progress made so far this term. We recognise that there are many challenges to working at home and that it takes real determination to focus and remain positive. It is essential that all students continue with their work in order for teachers to have the evidence needed for the examination boards in order for grades to be awarded.
I want to give you an update on Year 11 GCSE grades and assessment information available so far. The DfE have asked Ofqual to undertake a consultation on what they feel should happen to determine your grades for the summer. We as a school have contributed to this consultation and as soon as the outcome is known, we will contact you with details of the plan. Information from Ofqual regarding results and exams can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/ofqual
We do know that the process will be different to last year and whilst we await for final confirmation of the plan, it is essential that all of our Year 11 students continue to attend live lessons on Google Classroom, to engage in the work set by teachers and to complete all work to the best standard possible. This will ensure that we have the best evidence to support decisions on grades to be awarded. It is therefore essential that you continue to work, progress and submit work in order to secure the grades you deserve.
We also know that it can feel overwhelming at times, knowing where to begin. Do make contact with your teachers on Google Classroom who can support you with your work along with your tutor and Progress Leaders, Mrs Carr and Mr Forbes. Remember to take time out for your daily exercise and to have some time off screen. We understand that every family are dealing with their own challenges and want you to know that we are here to support you.
We look forward to talking to you at the Year 11 Progress Evening being held on Thursday 11th February, details of which have been sent out by Mr Scoltock. I am also available for appointments on this day should you wish to meet with me online, please make an appointment on the system. Please note that teachers will discuss with you what needs to be done to work towards your target and the grades from last term’s report, however they will not be giving current grades out until we have an opportunity for you to be assessed once back in school.
I will send out further information on examinations and how grades are to be awarded as soon as it is released. The school closes for half term on Friday 12th February and students are not expected to complete work during that week. Lessons will begin again on Google Classroom from Monday 22nd February. I wish you all the best for the forthcoming break.
Regards,
Rachel Hudson
