5th January 2022
Dear parents and carers,
Happy new-year. We look forward to all students returning to school on Thursday 6th January 2022. Thank you for your support in sending students in to be tested today.
As you will be aware, there has been an update on the guidance in the last few days and as a result of this, all students and staff are to wear face coverings both in classrooms and communal areas and this will be reviewed on the 26th January. We ask for your support in this by sending your child in with a reusable face covering wherever possible. We do have a supply of disposable face coverings in school but due to the need for these to be worn for 3 weeks, we ask that you work with us to keep everyone safe in school and reduce the amount of waste. If your child is exempt, please ensure you have emailed this in with the reason so that an exemption card can be issued to your child.
There has also been a change in relation to the guidance of when someone has tested positive on a lateral flow test. Individuals who have tested positive on a PCR should isolate for 7 days and as long as they test negative on an LFD test on days 6 and 7, they may then return to school on day 7 or day 8 if you live in Wales. The tests should be taken 24 hours apart. Those who receive two negative test results are no longer required to complete the 10 full days of isolation.
We are aware that the media have announced that PCR tests may no longer be required and we understand that the guidance may be changed early next week. At the moment, if your child has any Covid symptoms, you should continue to take a PCR if you have tested positive on a lateral flow test but if you are unable to book one, continue to test on days 6 and 7 on the lateral flow test, following the guidance on the 7 day isolation. If your child has tested positive within the last 90 days, they are strongly encouraged to continue taking part in the LFD testing each week at home.
We encourage all students to continue twice weekly lateral flow testing at home and report the results on the NHS website at https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result Please contact school if the test is positive and keep your child at home. Details on the second vaccination will be made available next week.
We look forward to welcoming students back to school and for all that we will achieve together in the year ahead.
