Year 10 BTEC students are completing the Planning, Preparation and Performance unit as part of their Level 1/Level 2 First Award in Performing Arts course and recently attended a workshop at the University of Chester to support them with their work. The workshop was led by leading Dramatists Professor Allan Owens and Naomi Green and included working alongside students from the Department of Performing Arts, Katayanagi Institute in Tokyo. The students worked collaboratively to explore ways of performing an ancient Japanese story through physical theatre and still image. Students were introduced to the use of fans, masks and percussion to enhance their performances and were treated to a lively performance of Japanese drumming, followed by a hands-on exploration of the art of drumming in performance. It was a unique experience and our students gained a fascinating insight into Japanese culture.
