Ofsted Inspection Report – October 2021
Dear parents and carers,
Following our recent Ofsted inspection, I attach a link to the final report, which has just been released. There is much to be proud of. http://www.blaconhighschool.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Ofsted-Report-October-2021.pdf
`Pupils said they are happy at Blacon High School. They feel cared for and well supported by staff. Pupils enjoy learning in a calm and friendly environment. Staff have high expectations of behaviour, pupils understand how to behave towards each other and model the school’s core principles.’
`Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school and are motivated by the rewards that they can achieve. Pupils are proud of their work, they know that teachers will help them with their learning. Pupils benefit from a wide range of clubs and activities. They welcome the extensive opportunities that they get through personal development to develop their character and resilience, as well as their leadership skills.’
These are just some of the many positive features included within the report.
The report acknowledges the work of leaders and Governors in developing a clear vision for the school and recognise that the plans are in place and will be realised soon. During the inspection, I discussed with the inspectors the impact that the pandemic has had in delaying some of our plans for the curriculum, which has slowed down improvements in the quality of education. There is no doubt that the last 18 months have had a huge impact on our school and community. This report recognises many strengths of our school and identifies the curriculum as an area where further improvements need to be made. We are already making changes to the curriculum and look forward to sharing with you our development work over the coming months and progress towards the improvement priorities that Ofsted have set us.
I am immensely proud of the way that students, staff and families supported us during the inspection. The inspectors saw Blacon at its best and commented on the calm, friendly, supportive atmosphere. `Leaders expect pupils to behave well and treat others respectfully. They have fostered a positive environment where pupils can learn without disruption.’
Both the Governors and myself have every confidence in our team that we can continue to work together to build on our many areas of success and make the school even stronger moving forwards.
Regards,
Rachel Hudson
