Parent Governor Election December 2025

Dear parents and carers,

I am writing to inform you of a vacancy for the role of parent governor on our governing board.  We currently have one vacancy and the term of office is four years.  You can stand for election or nominate another parent to do so.

The role of the governing board

The school’s governing board is responsible for providing strategic leadership, and creating robust accountability, oversight and assurance for the school’s educational and financial performance.
The Governors are passionate about education and committed to continuous school improvement to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students.

The role of a parent governor

As a parent governor, you will work with the board to make sure it effectively carries out its duties and act as an ambassador for the school. You will also play a vital role in bringing a parental perspective to the governing board.  To be able to volunteer, you need to be a parent or carer, or someone who has parental responsibility for a child at the school.

To be a parent governor you should have:

  • A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children
  • Good interpersonal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • The specific skills required to make sure the governing board delivers effective governance
  •

Expectations of governors

To fulfil the role, you will need to:

  • Attend regular meetings 4 times a year and a Strategy Conference once a year
  • Visit the school
  • Do some background reading
  • Take part in induction training and ongoing development, which will be provided for you.
  • Governors are asked to be part of one other committee, Finance or Quality of Education and for these, there are 3 meetings a year.

Other activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Attending induction training and regular training and development events;
  • Behaving in a professional manner, as outlined in the governing body’s code of conduct, including maintaining strict confidentiality;
  • Ensuring that school staff have the resources and support necessary to do their jobs well.
  •

How to apply

If you are interested in applying for the role, please complete the candidate form attached to this letter and return by email to admin@blaconhigh.cheshire.sch.uk or in person at front reception by Friday 5th December 2025. If we receive more applications than there are vacancies, a secret ballot will be carried out. We will inform you closer to the time if we have to do this.

If you have any queries about this process or would like to find out more about the role, please contact me at school.

Yours sincerely,

Rachel Hudson

Headteacher
