Dear Parents and Carers,
HEATWAVE MEASURES AT SCHOOL
As you are probably aware, The Met Office has issued a red extreme heat warning for Monday 18th July and Tuesday 19th July, as temperatures build this weekend and early next week for much of England and Wales.
The red warning highlights likely adverse health effects for the public, not just limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat.
Temperatures could be in excess of 32°C within the warning area, with Monday and Tuesday most likely to see temperatures around this level.
As a school, we will be taking account of the government guidance on looking after children during heatwaves. This includes the use of ventilation, keeping children hydrated, and avoiding vigorous physical activity, encouraging children to wear loose, light-coloured clothing and sunhats, to use sunscreen, and providing them with plenty of water. As a result of this, the planned inflatable activity will take place at a different time, when the weather is cooler and has been postponed for next week.
We also have a school risk assessment in place to ensure children are kept safe in extreme heat. We will review the weather and risk assessment next week and confirm details on whether the Sponsored Walk will go ahead.
Please ensure your child comes to school with a refillable water bottle, sun hat and sun cream next week and wears suitable, appropriate clothing for the warm temperatures (no crop tops or very short shorts). Students may wear their own clothes for the whole week in school, including Thursday morning.
Thank you for your support. We will keep you updated over the coming days.
Regards,
Rachel Hudson
