The Year 9 football team have made school history, reaching the ESFA National Small Schools Cup Final after a thrilling semi-final win against Durham County College at Cairns Crescent. Mr Sabri is extremely proud of his players, the game was 3-3 AET before Jake Dean saved two penalty kicks and Blacon went onto win 4-2 on penalties. In the last 32 of the competition, Blacon beat De Le Salle 9-1, Sephton 5-2 in the quarter final and after beating Durham, the team now have a National Small Schools Cup Final to look forward to in the New Year.
The Year 8 football team lost to Upton in a friendly before losing to Tarporley in the Cheshire Cup second round. They did finish 2013 on a real positive, beat UCEA 4-0 in Ellesmere Port with Robbie Davies scoring all four goals in the second half with a fantastic team performance. The Year 9 and Year 10 boys 7 a side football teams played their Chester and District 7 a side tournaments at Upton High School. The Year 9 team somehow failed to breach the group stages after impressive wins against Bishops and Kings, a good draw against Catholic High; it was the narrow defeat against Tarporley that resulted in them missing out by 1 point. The Year 10 team were without four key players due to injury but led by skipper Trey Lattie they managed to beat Bishops 2-1, Abbeygate 2-0 and Tarporley 1-0 to reach the semi final. Kings were our opponents and Trey Lattie scored the important goal to face rivals Upton High School in the final. After a 0-0 draw with Tom Dalton and Billy Fennell having chances to score, we went on to lose 3-2 on penalties with James Lloyd hitting the post with his spot kick. A difficult way to lose a final but Mr Cairns was very happy with how the team worked hard for each other and played some decent football. The Year 7 had an indoor 5 a side tournament at Catholic High School and lost close games to Bishops Heber, Queens Park and Catholic High. The best performance was against winners Kings who we drew 2-2 with conceding an equaliser in the last minute against a talented team.
