Change to School Day and New Logo for September 2022
Dear Parents and Carers,
The government education White Paper, (March 2022), sets out requirements for all schools to have a minimum school week of 32 ½ hours. Currently, our school week is 31 ¼ hours. We therefore must increase the length of time that students are in school and add 1-hour 15 minutes to our school week.
Currently, tutor time is 30 minutes and takes place every morning between 8:45am and 09:15am.
Break is 20 minutes long between 11:05am and 11:25am.
There is a single lunch of 45 minutes, between 1:15pm and 2:00pm.
The school day starts at 8:45am and ends at 3:00pm.

New school logo

Following consultation with students and staff, we have also changed our school logo and motto.
This will appear on our new website and all communication from September and will work its way into the school uniform for September 2023 but there will be no expectation for any parents to buy new uniform. We will phase it in over the next few years. The logo maintains at its heart, the links with our 5 Primary Schools within the BEV (Blacon Educational Village) with the colour of each being represented in the logo. The new school colour for Blacon High School is gold which represents success, confidence and optimism, again this was chosen by students. We will involve students in the design of a new school tie but again please be reassured, these will be phased in and there will be no expectation for parents to buy new uniform.
I will update you further on any changes to this week as we continue to update our risk assessment in light of the extreme weather and will let you know of some key information and sources of support for families over the summer break.
Regards,
Rachel Hudson
