Hi All,
Well, we made it to the end of term….Phew! We may be feeling a little ragged around the edges, and, yet again, Covid has done its best to interfere with the normal running of the school. However, we’re still in one piece. As you will know, we have had our fair share of absences to deal with, among both staff and students, but, with a positive attitude and the willingness to support each other, we got to the last day. Huge thanks to staff, students, parents and carers for your ongoing support.
Rugby Team

The Year 7 boys rugby team experienced their first ever competitive match after having rugby taught in PE lessons with Mr. Cairns and Mr Burgess. They played Chester Catholic High School in a friendly and the students had the opportunity to demonstrate the tackling, rucking and passing techniques they have learned in the last few weeks.
The boys embraced the opportunity, defended well as a team and made tackles throughout, showed resilience when the opposition scored and showed plenty of courage. We ran in nine fantastic tries, Jamal Lemaitre (3) Zach Stuart (2) Jayden Joinson, Morgan Massey, Frankie Dutton & Carsen Armstrong all touching down past the white line. We won a very close match but learned a lot about the rules, the game of rugby and the discipline it brings.
The respect the students showed Mr Rhodes who refereed the game was admirable. We demonstrated sportsmanship by clapping off our opposition in a tunnel and had a mixed team photo to show our appreciation to our 'dance partners'.
Captain Jayden Joinson was a positive influence and lead by example. Player of the match was Morgan Massey - fearless in the tackle & used his speed to create attacks.
Well done the Blacon Les Blues

Shakespeare Week

To commemorate our most famous of playwrights, the English Department celebrated Shakespeare Week in a number of ways.
Students often groan when they begin a Shakespeare text because, let’s face it, the language is really challenging to understand at first. However, once they get past the initial language barrier, they love the stories and the action, especially when they finally realise that Romeo and Juliet is not really just a slushy love story; it’s so much more than that with themes like family, honour and loyalty featuring strongly.
Year 7 completed assessments on A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream while Year 8 worked on The Tempest.
Additionally, there were lots of activities in the library and staff shared their favourite Shakespeare quotes around school.

Anime Night

Mr Colewell hosted a Japanese themed event in school on 31st March.
Key Stage 4 students were invited to attend a Japan and Anime evening as part of the selection of events held by the PTA. The evening included drawing workshops, a screening from a Studio Ghibli film and tasting of Japanese sweets and snacks. A student in Year 9 designed the poster that was shared across school. The evening was a great success and we have plans to hold another next academic year.

National Cup Semi Final

After a superb season that really showcased some of the amazing football talent at Blacon High School, the Year 8 boys football team were, unfortunately, knocked out of the National Cup in a hard fought semi-final. They have performed brilliantly throughout the year and represented the school with honour.
In recent years, the school has had a fantastic record of reaching several semi-finals and finals in this competition; our name will be on that trophy soon.
Well done lads!
Easter Revision
As you know, the GCSE season is almost upon us and, as usual, we will be offering a range of revision sessions during the holiday. Please encourage your children to take advantage of this opportunity.

And finally….
Once again, many thanks to all of our parents and carers for their ongoing support during this term. Please enjoy a happy and restful Easter and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday 20th April.
