Well, it has been another busy week here at Blacon High School. Once again, it’s great to be able to share the day to day successes of our students and staff.
Saturday 26th September is the European day of Languages. To celebrate the event and to introduce a cross-curricular element with Maths, students have been counting in English, French and Spanish. They are now working on adding Japanese and Russian and German.
This work complements the great idea of students in the Y9 Spanish GCSE group who have created their own Snapchat group so they can all chat in Spanish and support each other with homework. Head of MFL Mrs Hassall said that students have made a fantastic start to their Spanish GCSE.

Ms Garner, our Head of Food Technology was delighted with some of our Year 7 and 8 students who completed their first practical lesson of the year. They demonstrated safe and effective cutting techniques, including the use of the 'bridge and claw' grip, they learned to use the hob and also, very importantly, they demonstrated superb levels of safety and hygiene to ensure our food environment was Covid secure. Fantastic effort guys!

Students enjoy another day in the forest as we continue to include a variety of strategies to support and engage all learners at Blacon High School. Students visited a few of the many streams and lakes and observed the impact on the forest when the season changes from summer to autumn. Students all had a go at walking a slack line to see how far they could get using their balance.

Meanwhile, a group of Year 7s visited Peckforton caves and the surrounding area. They were improving communication skills and social skills by listening and following instructions, while developing resilience and self-reliance.

It’s the end of an area as Blacon High Staff Football team folds after 2 successful years playing in the Chester Flexi Monday Night League. They are back to back league champions, which is an incredible achievement, winning against strong opposition and cup finalists. Teams have been forced to withdraw from the new season as a response to restrictions imposed as we all continue to battle the impact of COVID-19. Skipper Mr Evans applauded the staff for their commitment and effort over the last two years. For the time being, the team will continue to play football socially each Friday after school, from 3.15pm - 4.15pm, and all staff are welcome to join.
