The first of many BEV primary school sporting competitions took place last night with a Yr 5 and Yr 6, boys and girls football tournament at Blacon High School. The event was organised and hosted by Mr Forbes with boys and girls tournaments running side by side.
Yr 11 GCSE PE students from Blacon High School: Kieran Ball, Brook Goodwin, Calyn Barlow, Harley Bennion, Jake Sconce, Lochlan Hardy, Layton Ashford, Ellen Quinn and Chloe Carswell, who are being assessed as football leaders and referees, helped to co-ordinate and run the competition. In preparation for the matches, each Yr 11 student led a team through a warm up and a skill activity independently. The event was further supported by Year 7 leaders: Tom Graham and Daniel Youds, and Year 8 student Corey Cooper, who helped to collate scores and take pictures.
The tournament was attended by: JH Godwin, Dee Point, Arches, St Theresa’s, and Highfield primary schools who all had boys and girls teams competing for the best Yr 5 and 6 football primary school in Blacon. There were over ninety children playing football and the event was well supported by parents and teachers who cheered on all teams. The games were played in good spirits, a lot of goals were scored and the Yr 11 referees also enjoyed the experience.
The Yr 5 and 6 Boys winners were Dee Point with JH Godwin as runners up. The Yr 5 and 6 Girls winners were Dee Point while Highfield were runners up. All the players received certificates.
The evening was a great success and a credit to all those who took part. Meanwhile, at Blacon High School, we are really looking forward to the next BEV competition, the Tag Rugby tournament, on Thursday 22nd October.
