We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed Teacher of Science across Key Stages 3 and 4 to GCSE Level at this 11 – 16 high school, supporting students to develop a curiosity about the world around them and providing the opportunity to explore the social, cultural and economic effects of Science.
The successful candidate will work within a cohesive and well developed team to provide teaching across KS3 and KS4. Experience of achieving successful outcomes at KS4 in their PGCE/School Direct training/NQT year is a priority for the candidate.
Blacon High School prides itself on being restless and always striving for improvement. In our most recent OFSTED in January 2016 we were judged to be a good school. We are now looking towards improving upon this as we move forward. In September 2016 we moved into a new state of the art building with five fully furnished science labs and a large preparation room. As a science department we have a full time technician and teaching assistant.
In Year 11 our students study for WJEC exams in Biology, Chemistry and Physics for triple students and Science A and Additional for all other students. In Years 10 and 9 students are studying towards the new AQA 9-1 Trilogy Specifications with first examinations in June 2018. At Key Stage 3 we have created our own system for monitoring the progress of students known as the BAS (Blacon Assessment Steps), which is linked to transferrable skills in Science.
