Teacher of Science
Required to start September 2019 (an earlier start may be considered)
Full time, fixed term for one year in the first instance
Due to expansion, we are seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed Teacher of Science across Key Stages 3 and 4 to GCSE Level at this popular and oversubscribed 11 – 16 comprehensive high school. The successful candidate will support students to develop a curiosity about the world around them and provide the opportunity to explore the social, cultural and economic effects of Science.
Blacon High School prides itself on being relentless in its desire to provide outstanding learning opportunities, and the successful candidate will join a well-established team of highly-motivated practitioners. In our most recent OFSTED in January 2016 we received a Good grading. We are now looking towards improving upon this as we move forward. In September 2016 we moved into a new state of the art building with five fully furnished science labs and a large preparation room. As a Science department we have a full time Technician and a Teaching Assistant.
At KS4 students study the new AQA 9-1 GCSE’s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics for triple students and Combined Science: Trilogy for all others. At KS3 we have created our own system for monitoring the progress of students known as the BAS (Blacon Assessment Steps), which is linked to transferrable skills in Science needed by students in preparation for GCSE. We are looking for an excellent practitioner to join our team so experience of achieving successful outcomes at KS4 in their current role is essential.
