Teacher of Maths
Required to start September 2019
Full time, fixed term for one year in the first instance
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed Teacher of Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4 to GCSE Level at this popular and oversubscribed 11 – 16 comprehensive high school; supporting students to develop a thirst for knowledge and providing the opportunity to solve problems, collaborate on investigations and learn from mistakes. You will have the energy and enthusiasm to work with young people to achieve their full potential, to make a difference to their lives and act as a role model.
The successful candidate will work within a cohesive and well developed team to provide teaching across KS3 and KS4. Experience of achieving successful outcomes at KS4 in their current role is essential. We would welcome applications from newly qualified and experienced Maths teachers.
Blacon High School prides itself on being relentless in its desire to provide outstanding learning opportunities, and the successful candidate will join a well-established team of highly-motivated practitioners. In our most recent OFSTED in January 2016 we received a Good grading and in September 2016 we moved into a new state of the art building.
As a Maths Department we have a full time dedicated Teaching Assistant. Class sizes are smaller than average; however, we are an expanding school with oversubscription in Year 7. We enjoy a healthy complement of contact time with classes; 9 hours for Year 11, and 8 hours per fortnight for Years 7-10. We follow a 5 year, spiralling scheme of work and at KS4 we follow the Edexcel syllabus.
At Key Stage 3 we have created our own system for monitoring the progress of students known as the BAS (Blacon Assessment Steps), which is linked to Maths at GCSE level.
