Required for September 2018, full time, fixed term for one year in the first instance, MPS
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed Teacher of Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4 to GCSE Level at this 11 – 16 high school. You will have the energy and enthusiasm to work with young people to achieve their full potential, to make a difference to their lives and act as a role model.
We would welcome applications from newly qualified and experienced Maths teachers as well as Maths specialists with a KS2 background.
The successful candidate will work within a cohesive and well developed team to provide teaching across KS3 and KS4. Experience of achieving successful outcomes at KS4 in their current role is essential.
Blacon High School prides itself on being restless and always striving for improvement. In our most recent OFSTED in January 2016 we received a Good grading. We are now looking towards improving upon this as we move forward. In September 2016 we moved into a new state of the art building with five fully furnished Maths classrooms complete with SMART boards and a bespoke Maths work room, which acts as a hub for the department. The Maths department is enhanced further with a full time dedicated Teaching Assistant.
Class sizes are smaller than average and we enjoy a healthy timetable of contact time with classes; 8 hours per fortnight at KS3 and 9 hours for KS4. We follow a 5 year scheme of work and at KS4 we follow the Edexcel and OCR syllabus. In the School’s 2017 pupil survey, students viewed Maths as one of their favourite subjects. We strongly believe in supporting students to develop a thirst for knowledge and providing the opportunity to solve problems, collaborate on investigations and learn from mistakes.

Blacon High School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.
