Required for September 2017, full time, MPS

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed Teacher of Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4 to GCSE Level at this 11 – 16 high school, supporting students to develop a thirst for knowledge and providing the opportunity to solve problems, collaborate on investigations and learn from mistakes. You will have the energy and enthusiasm to work with young people to achieve their full potential, to make a difference to their lives and act as a role model. If suitable, the successful experienced candidate would be responsible for progress in Maths at KS3 as a TLR.

The successful candidate will work within a successful and established team to provide teaching across KS3 and KS4. Experience of achieving successful outcomes at KS4 is a priority for the candidate, which could be demonstrated in their PGCE, School Direct training or NQT year if necessary.

Blacon High School prides itself on being restless and always striving for improvement. In our most recent OFSTED in January 2016 we were judged to be a good school. We are now looking towards improving upon this as we move forward. In September 2016 we moved into a new state of the art building. Last year Blacon High School achieved 74% Grade A*-C in Maths. Class sizes are smaller than average and we enjoy a healthy complement of contact time with classes; 8 hours per fortnight at KS3 and 9 hours for KS4.

In the School’s 2016 pupil survey, students viewed Maths as their second favourite subject. As a Maths Department we have a full time dedicated Teaching Assistant.

We follow a 5 year scheme of work and at KS4 we follow the Edexcel syllabus. At Key Stage 3 we have created our own system for monitoring the progress of students known as the BAS (Blacon Assessment Steps), which is linked to transferrable skills in Maths at GCSE level.
