We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed Teacher of English across Key Stages 3 and 4 to GCSE Level at this 11 – 16 high school, supporting students to develop a thirst for knowledge and providing the opportunity to explore a wide range of texts and read critically, and use knowledge gained from wide reading to inform and improve their own writing in both English Language and English Literature.
The successful candidate will work within a successful and established team to provide teaching across KS3 and KS4. Experience of achieving successful outcomes at KS4 in their PGCE/School Direct training/NQT year is a priority for the candidate.
Blacon High School prides itself on being restless and always striving for improvement. In our most recent OFSTED in January 2016 we were judged to be a good school. We are now looking towards improving upon this as we move forward. In September 2016 we moved into a new state of the art building. The English Department is responsible for the new Learning Resource Centre, which is situated at the centre of the department where learning and teaching continues outside of the classroom. As a leading department in the school, the English Team work closely with other departments to promote literacy in order to secure good outcomes at each key stage.
At KS4 we follow the Eduqas syllabus. At Key Stage 3 we have created our own system for monitoring the progress of students known as the BAS (Blacon Assessment Steps), which is linked to transferrable skills in English at GCSE level.
