We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed Teacher of Science across Key Stages 3 and 4 to GCSE Level at this 11 – 16 high school, supporting students to develop a curiosity about the world around them and providing the opportunity to explore the social, cultural and economic effects of Science.


The successful candidate will work within a cohesive and well developed team to provide teaching across KS3 and KS4. Experience of achieving successful outcomes at KS4 in their current role is essential.


Blacon High School prides itself on being restless and always striving for improvement.  In our most recent OFSTED in January 2016 we received a Good grading.  We are now looking towards improving upon this as we move forward.  In September 2016 we moved into a new state of the art building with five fully furnished science labs and a large preparation room.  As a Science department we have a full time Technician and a Teaching Assistant.


At KS4 students study the new AQA 9-1 GCSE’s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics for triple students and Combined Science: Trilogy for all others.  At KS3 we have created our own system for monitoring the progress of students known as the BAS (Blacon Assessment Steps), which is linked to transferrable skills in Science needed by students in preparation for GCSE.  This role includes a TLR for a KS3 Coordinator to develop this system further.  We are looking for an excellent practitioner to join our team to coach and lead in the consistent delivery of our KS3 curriculum ensuring at least good progress is made by all students.
