KS3 Coordinator – Teacher of Maths
Required for May 2018, full time, MPS/UPS plus TLR 2
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed Teacher of Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4 to GCSE Level at this 11 – 16 high school, supporting students to develop a thirst for knowledge and providing the opportunity to solve problems, collaborate on investigations and learn from mistakes. You will have the energy and enthusiasm to work with young people to achieve their full potential, to make a difference to their lives and act as a role model.
The successful candidate will work within a cohesive and well developed team to provide teaching across KS3 and KS4. Experience of achieving successful outcomes at KS4 in their current role is essential.
Blacon High School prides itself on being restless and always striving for improvement. In our most recent OFSTED in January 2016 we received a Good grading. We are now looking towards improving upon this as we move forward. In September 2016 we moved into a new state of the art building with five fully furnished Maths labs and a large preparation room.
As a Maths Department we have a full time dedicated Teaching Assistant. Class sizes are smaller than average and we enjoy a healthy complement of contact time with classes; 8 hours per fortnight at KS3 and 9 hours for KS4. We follow a 5 year scheme of work and at KS4 we follow the Edexcel and OCR syllabus. In the School’s 2017 pupil survey, students viewed Maths as their second favourite subject.
At Key Stage 3 we have created our own system for monitoring the progress of students known as the BAS (Blacon Assessment Steps), which is linked to Maths at GCSE level. This role includes a TLR for a KS3 Coordinator to develop this system further. We are looking for an excellent practitioner to join our team to coach and lead in the consistent delivery of our KS3 curriculum ensuring at least good progress is made by all students.
Further information relating to this role can be found in the accompanying job description and person specification and by visiting the School website at www.blaconhighschool.net. For an informal discussion, or to arrange a visit please contact Mrs. S Yates, Headteacher on 01244 371475.

Blacon High School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS disclosure will be sought for the successful candidate in accordance with Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education legislation.
