Head of Mathematics
Required for September 2018, full time, MPS/UPS + TLR1
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and committed Head of Maths at this very successful 11 – 16 high school. You will have the energy and enthusiasm to lead the Maths team to work with young people to achieve their full potential, to make a difference to their lives and act as a role model.
We would welcome applications from experienced Maths teaching professionals with experience of holding responsibilities and in demonstrating leadership in Maths. The successful candidate will work within and lead a cohesive and well developed team to provide teaching across KS3 and KS4. Experience of achieving successful outcomes at KS4 in their current role is essential.
Blacon High School prides itself on being restless and always striving for improvement. In our most recent OFSTED in January 2016 we received a good grading. We are working on the route to outstanding as we move forward.
In September 2016, we moved into a new state of the art building with five fully furnished Maths classrooms complete with SMART boards and a bespoke Maths work room, which acts as a hub for the department. The Maths department is enhanced further with a full time dedicated Teaching Assistant.
Class sizes are smaller than average and we enjoy a healthy timetable of contact time with classes; 8 hours per fortnight at KS3 and 9 hours for KS4. We follow a 5 year scheme of work and at KS4 we follow the Edexcel and OCR syllabus. In the School’s 2017 pupil survey, students viewed Maths as one of their favourite subjects. We strongly believe in supporting students to develop a thirst for knowledge and providing the opportunity to solve problems, collaborate on investigations and learn from mistakes.
We are looking for an excellent practitioner to join our team to coach and lead a highly effective Department ensuring at least good progress is made by all students.
Further information relating to this role can be found in the accompanying job description and person specification and by visiting the School website at www.blaconhighschool.net. For an informal discussion, or to arrange a visit please contact Mrs. S Yates, Headteacher on 01244 371475.
Please apply using the formal application form which may be downloaded from the Cheshire West and Chester Council website or from the School website and a covering letter. Please note that CVs will not be accepted. Completed application forms should be returned to Tegan Whiteside, HR Administrator or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Blacon High School is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS disclosure will be sought for the successful candidate in accordance with Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education legislation.
