Student’s short stories published
Students from Blacon High School have been celebrating after a selection of their work was published in a book as part of the Young Writers competition called ‘80 words around the world.’
The competition required students in Year 8 and Year 9 to write a story with a beginning, middle and an end in just eighty words. This meant they had to be very selective and creative with their vocabulary choices, whilst showing imagination and technical skill in their writing.
To the delight of students, parents and staff, a large number of our students' writing was selected to be included in the ‘80 Words Around the World collection of short stories’ which was published in September 2013.
Fran Roberts, who organised the competition in school, said “It has been a fantastic experience for the students and has enabled their success in writing to be shared with a wider audience.”
Ellen Quinn,13, added “I can’t believe that I can actually read my story in a real book. It’s great.”
