Dear parents and carers,
Withdrawal of students from vocational exams
I wrote to you on Tuesday to confirm that the Vocational examination scheduled for next week would go ahead as planned.
Yesterday the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson announced that ‘GCSE examinations will not be going ahead in the summer as they are no longer feasible with so much time lost in the Covid pandemic and the latest lockdown’. As so many students at Blacon High School have been affected by the pandemic and lost time to prepare for their examinations the school has today taken the decision to withdraw all students who had been entered for next week’s vocational exams.
- Monday 11thJanuary, 14:00pm – Imedia: Pre-production skills – All candidates withdrawn
- Wednesday 13thJanuary, 09:00am – Business: Enterprise & marketing skills – All candidates withdrawn
Mr Williamson explained that teacher assessed grades would now be used to for this year’s candidates. Subject staff will be working hard with students from now until the summer, both remotely and when we hopefully return to school in the spring, to generate evidence to support their predicted grades. It is vital that students engage with the lessons and work being set on Google Classroom in order to demonstrate the skills and understanding they have to secure the best grade possible.
We will be in touch with further information when more detail is released by the Government and examination boards.
If you would like to discuss this further then please feel free to contact me at school.
Mr Nick Scoltock
