HALF TERM 1

This course focuses on the design and construction of products manufactured from a wide variety of materials.  

Students research, design, refine and make, whilst bringing together the application of the understanding of: different materials; production techniques and CAD/CAM.  

Students are provided with a brief, by researching to develop ideas, which are later refined, leading to manufacture, whilst developing skills in problem solving, testing and evaluating.  

Students research artist Jon Burgerman to inspire the design and manufacture of a coat hook.  

On completion of this tasks students learn and engage in more traditional woodworking techniques in the creation of a storage box.

HALF TERM 2

Create Development of final idea/plan selection of ideas to develop informed by initial ideas   

Students learn about and select appropriate machinery, tools and materials to create design.  

Focus on communication of ideas through annotations on work, the completion of a diary/log, engaging in discussions and presentations. 

Students then solve issues identified around their idea and making informed amendments. 

HALF TERM 3

Design Experimentation and testing with a range of machinery, tools, materials and media experimentation and testing with a range of techniques and processes working in the style of the artist/designer/culture responding to research communicating ideas – annotations and diary/log, discussions and presentations walking gallery group discussion self-assessment peer assessment.

Refinement mind mapping responding to the brief/research development of innovative and creative ideas linking research to initial ideas communicating ideas – annotations and diary/log, discussions and presentations self-assessment peer assessment group discussion group presentation.

HALF TERM 1

The course will test your ability to; research, design, refine and make, whilst bringing together the application of; materials, production techniques and CAD/CAM. To summarise 3D Design is about responding to a brief, by researching to develop ideas, which are later refined, leading to manufacture, whilst developing skills in problem solving, testing and evaluating. In year 8 students will research artist Sir Terry Frost to inspire the design and manufacture of a racing car.   • Engagement with different machinery and materials, for example: Strip Heater (acrylic), Folding Machine (Aluminium), Laser Cutter (Acrylic & Laser Plywood), Pillar Drill (Aluminium, Pinewood, MDF & Acrylic) Scroll Saw (MDF & Acrylic), Bobbing & Belt Sander (Acrylic & Pinewood)
