What’s New on the Block?
MP Chris Matheson and Senior Project Officer Magnus Theobold join staff and students at Blacon High School to celebrate as work on a fantastic, new building gets under way. The extra space that the school will gain is completely bespoke and was designed with the input of both students and staff, along with developers – Paveaways.
The new accommodation that is situated to the right as you enter through the main gates, will offer six classrooms on the first floor, while the ground floor will be arranged into purpose-built spaces to enable the specialist, focused delivery of lessons in a flexible and vibrant environment to support a range of individual needs. Also on the ground floor there will be additional dining facilities with a Bistro and a communal seating area, along with some office space and a specialist Art/Technology room.
The new food service will add further capacity to the current catering offer comprised of the main Diner and a, brand new, still to be named, external ‘pod’.
Headteacher Rachel Hudson said: ‘I am thrilled that the development has now started and I look forward to watching as the building begins to take shape. I am excited by the opportunities the new facility will offer as Blacon High School continues to grow. We truly are the first school of choice for the community of Blacon and beyond’.
Work is due to be completed within a year and the new building will be fully operational by September 2021.
