Following approximately a year of planning and behind-the-scenes activity since its original inception, the first meeting of the Blacon High School Combined Cadet Force (CCF) took place on 9th September.
The CCF will be led by Sergeant Pete McBride who had a long and distinguished military career as Regimental Sergeant Major in the army, a career that took him on overseas tours including to the Middle East. He will be supported by School Staff Instructor (SSI) Gary Morgan-Jones, along with Blacon High School’s own Under Officer Josh Jones and Under Officer Sean Blain.
The CCF is open to male and female students from Year 8 to Year 11 and in excess of twenty students signed up for duty. This is a fantastic start and we fully expect the number to grow.
During the evening, new recruits learned about the different ranks in the CCF and also discussed expectations, responsibilities and values while Sergeant McBride was able to share an outline plan of the activities and opportunities that will be on offer during the year.
We are already looking forward to next week when uniforms will be distributed.
