Pupil Premium is a specific government policy targeted on disadvantaged students – giving schools extra funding to enable them to take the most effective action to raise attainment and narrow the gaps in outcomes.
Students in year groups ranging from Reception to Year 11 (5-16 years) who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the previous six years or any children who have been in public care for at least six months continuously (aged 4-15 years) are the focus group for the premium.
Schools may use the Pupil Premium in ways that they believe are best for this cohort. Innovative approaches can be used but the outcomes of this intervention will be monitored through performance tables and Ofsted.
Numeracy is embedded into SMSC for all Year groups. Individual pupil progress is tracked for all pupils through analyses of their assessments, classwork and homework. Teachers instigate interventions within classrooms and there is addition teacher support for all year groups in the form of 1:1, small groups and within classrooms. In 2015 the Maths department ran Numeracy CPD for all staff as well as provided detailed information and methods for each subjects.
Literacy is a whole-school responsibility and all subjects mark for literacy and correct spellings. The quality of writing is tracked at each half-termly data catch by all subject areas who then instigate and record appropriate interventions. All members of the English department are tagged to another subject area and meet once each half-term to support teaching strategies, resources and interventions. All KS3 students have one timetabled Lexia lesson per two weeks. Where specific need is identified, this is addressed via focused TA support or in the IC.
